CGCH Detachable Container Houses Support the Qatar World Cup Fan Village Project
Modular Accommodation Built for a Global Sporting Event
The FIFA World Cup in Qatar welcomed football fans from around the world, creating significant demand for safe, comfortable, and rapidly deployable accommodation. To support the event’s temporary housing and service requirements, CGCH provided detachable container houses for the World Cup Fan Village project in Doha, Qatar.
The project used approximately 2,000 detachable container units to create a large-scale modular community that included dormitories, restaurants, retail shops, toilets, and reception areas.
This project demonstrated how modular construction can deliver efficient and flexible space solutions for international sporting events, temporary communities, worker camps, emergency projects, and large accommodation developments.

The fan village required a large number of buildings to be manufactured, transported, installed, and prepared within a controlled project schedule. Compared with conventional construction, detachable container houses provided a faster and more flexible way to establish the necessary accommodation and public service spaces.
Because the buildings were based on standardized modular units, different functional areas could be planned and assembled according to the overall site layout.
Why Detachable Container Houses Were Selected
1. Efficient Transportation for Large Projects
One of the main advantages of a detachable container house is that its structural components can be packed separately for transportation.
The standard CGCH unit measures approximately 5,950 × 3,000 × 2,800 mm, providing a building area of around 17.85 m². A 40HQ shipping container can carry up to approximately 17 standard units, depending on the final configuration and packing arrangement.
This high loading capacity helps reduce the number of shipping containers required for large projects, lowering international transportation costs and improving delivery efficiency.
For a project involving thousands of accommodation units, efficient packing and transportation can make a significant difference to the overall project schedule and logistics budget.
2. Fast On-Site Assembly
Detachable container houses are designed with bolted connections, allowing the main structure, wall panels, doors, windows, roof system, and floor system to be assembled on site.
A standard unit can be installed by approximately four workers in around three hours under suitable site conditions. No large crane is required for the basic assembly process, helping simplify installation and reduce dependence on heavy lifting equipment.
